With a population of 17,500, Durango, Colorado–where the Colorado trail ends–offers 6 legitimate microbreweries, 6 different small scale coffee houses, recreational 420, two hot springs resort towns 1+ hours from town, as well as excellent mountain biking, climbing, hiking and camping. Resort style skiing at Purgatory is only 30 minutes from town, with the most snowfall in the state at Wolf Creek 1.5 hours from town. Four thousand plus vertical feet of rideable terrain is only 2 hours from town at Telluride, and great back country skiing 30 minutes from town.

There is excellent fly fishing in all directions, even on the Animas River that runs through town. There are epic long-run Class 5 whitewater rafting opportunities on the upper Animas–45 minutes from town. Moab is just over 2 hours from town, Mesa Verde National Park 45 minutes from town, and excellent Elk and Deer hunting with minutes from town… What else? Beer Festivals, Film Festivals, Foodie Festivals, Wine Events, Marathons, Bike races, the list goes on… with all this set on top of and or around a picturesque old west main street full of character and characters.
